In Hebrew: 'Dessert'

קִנּוּחַ, מָנָה אַחֲרוֹנָה Most kids' favorite part of a meal (and maybe most adults' as well) is dessert. Israelis refer to dessert with one of two expressions: קִנּוּחַand מָנָה אַחֲרוֹנָה. קינוח comes from the active-intensive פִּעֵל verb לְקַנֵּחַmeaning to wipe or to dry something. Dessert could be said to wipe away the food from the rest of the meal. מנה אחרונה means, literally,final portion - dessert is the final portion of a meal. For example, imagine yourself with friends (a mixed group) in a restaurant after having eaten a nice meal. The waiter approaches you and asks:

אַתֶּם רוֹצִים לִשְׁמוֹעַ עַל הַמָּנוֹת הָאַחֲרוֹנוֹת שֶׁלָּנוּ? Would you like to hear about our desserts? To which you might reply,
