Iran and the US don’t have to go to war. They already are there. Obama arms Sunni rebels. Iran sends Hezbollah Shi’ites to help Assad. And Israel prays it won’t get the dirty end of the stick.
With Iran and Hezbollah openly supporting the anti-Sunni side in Syria, the battle lines have been redrawn, this time according to ancient and familiar traditions.
Obama jumps off the fence and will arm rebels. Military planners proposed a limited no-fly zone in Syria to help arm rebels. The US charges that Assad has killed more than 100 with chemical weapons.
US policy in the Middle East never has been brilliants, but deciding on whether to arm Syrian rebels means either backing Al Qaeda and the rebels or letting Hezbollah move into the regime.
