As a social worker, I am regularly in the position of bringing up and discussing the “hard truth” in order to support change and growth.

Parents enabling their adult children's dependency on them, financial distress because of unwise budgeting choices, family members turning a blind eye to the real needs of loved ones, and lack of preparation for end-of-life are among some of the most regular truthful and difficult conversations.

Much of the time, people are already aware of the truth of the situation and have avoided thinking about it or taking action until it reaches a crescendo.

If there's an emes you've been avoiding in your life, I encourage you to bring it into the light. Find a supportive person, professional if necessary, to do the preparation work with and then tackle the truth head on.
