It is unusual to find two young Jewish women from Northwest Florida electing to serve in the Israel Defense Force (IDF) following graduation from high school. Maytal Baurberg of Milton, Florida and Eliana McCulley of Gulf Breeze, Florida met a decade ago in the Yachad (together in Hebrew) – joint religious school of Temple Beth El and B’nai Israel Synagogue. They maintained contact growing up through social and other activities over the past decade. After graduating from their respective high schools on June 19, 2020 at the Bay Center in Pensacola, Florida they will be leaving for Israel in late July to assigned adoptive homes, Maytal to a Kibbutz less than three kilometers from the Gaza border and Eliana to a Kibbutz in the western Galilee. Both Maytal and Eliana have gone through separate Garin Tzabar intensive screening programs here in the US for young adults ages 18 to 24 who elect to serve in the IDF as Lone Soldiers. The Garin Tzabar program facilitates service in the IDF and provides a support system for Israelis and Diaspora Jews who do not have parents in Israel. Maytal explained that it is not unusual for U.S. citizens to serve in the IDF as Lone Soldiers. Thousands of Jews and non-Jews from across the world who feel an obligation serve in the IDF through the Mahal and Garin Tzabar programs.
Upon arrival at their designated communities they will each go through a quarantine period of 14 days before undergoing initial processing by the IDF to determine their military skills and matching personalities. They will receive Israeli IDs and passports under the Jewish Agency Nefesh b’ Nefesh (Jewish Souls United) Aliyah or immigration program. Maytal already has her Israeli passport by virtue of being a child of an Israeli father. Eliana will receive hers after initial processing in Israel.
Rod Bryant and Jerry Gordon of Israel News Talk Radio – Beyond the Matrix had the opportunity to interview Maytal Baurberg and Eliana McCulley to find out why they made this choice and what influenced their decision to serve as Lone Soldiers in the IDF. They found these two mature young women “extraordinary, articulate, passionate with their love for Israel who felt an obligation to protect its people”.
Maytal traveled frequently to Israel to meet family and was impressed by the young IDF soldiers she met there. Her father hails from Netanya, Israel. She was raised in Queens, New York in a vibrant Israeli ex- pat Jewish community before her family moved to the Pensacola area with a small Jewish community. Although she was accepted at the colleges and universities of her choice she felt “an obligation” to serve in the IDF and viewed it as a “once in a lifetime” opportunity.
Eliana had a different track. She graduated Gulf Breeze High as Lt. Col. Cadet second in command of the AFJROTC program. Eliana spent her Fall Semester of 10 th Grade at an Israel High School on Kibbutz Tzuba in the Judean Hills, during which she had a week of exposure to pre- IDF Gadna military training. She
also has friends in Israel who joined the IDF through the Garin Tzabar Lone Soldier program. The local Pensacola Jewish Federation sponsors a Shaliach (emissary) from the Jewish Agency Bridges to Israel program. As a result, she was exposed by Tal, one of the assigned Shaliach, to all things about Israel, its geography, and even Israeli snacks. She said that “opened her eyes”. She read extensively on Jewish history and understood the importance of having a thriving and productive sovereign Jewish nation with a military to protect its people.
As to their preferences were for branch of service in the IDF, Eliana said it could be either Army or Navy that she might continue in the US following IDF service. One possibility could be to pursue her father’s path who graduated from Texas A&M with a Bachelor’s in Marine Administration. He heads a company that specializes in international marine cargo movements. Maytal has expressed an interest in the search and rescue program. Ultimately, that choice may be determined by the initial physical, Hebrew language and personality tests that would tailor their assignments. They both know that the initial three months basic training will be ‘difficult’.
Asked about how their families felt, Maytal said that her parents were supportive of her choice. Eliana said that there have been emotional moments, but her parents are supportive of her decision.
Rod Bryant observed during the interview that both Maytal and Eliana appeared by their comments to be connected to Israel as “completion of a spiritual journey that would enable their souls to come alive”.

With all the rioting and protests going on today, we may be seeing even MORE violence, -but not in America. Take a look across the pond, to northern Africa and the Middle East. Libya, Turkey and Egypt are all embroiled in a power struggle that looks like there could be war. Libya's UN-recognized Government of National Accord (GNA), and Turkish imperialism and interests, claim that Egypt's military threat is a 'declaration of war'. Egypt sees a threat to it's own border with Libya and the Turks, and have threatened a 'direct' intervention in Libya if necessary in order to protect its porous border. What will be, and how will it affect us all?

So many of us are weighed down in life due to carrying excess emotional baggage. We may have been carrying the weight of negative emotions for so long that we may not even be able to identify the source of our load so we can more easily let it go. We may know exactly why we are carrying around emotional baggage and see how it's damaging us and our relationships, but still can't let it go. Why is this? How can we break free from emotional baggage that is holding us back from being the best version of self and fly forward towards the healthy, happy me!

How can a plan for peace be bad? Well, with US President Donald Trump's 'Deal of the Century' Peace Plan, which is the same formula as the failed 'two state solution' and goes against the Bible, and the fact Mahmoud Abbas has already refused and rejected it, this plan has no where to go.
Tamar Yonah speaks with her fascinating guest, Rav (Rabbi) Meir HaLevi, an Israeli who shares with us his family's background being 'Levites' from the Tribe of Levi, one of the Twelve Tribes of Israel. He explains that his ascendants stood at Mount Sinai when the Torah was given. His family served G-d in the Holy Temple that King Solomon built in Jerusalem. His ancestors were eventually exiled to Babylon with other Jews, and remained there for 2500 years. After the Modern State of Israel came into existence in 1948, his family was finally able to come to the Promised Land. Rav Meir HaLevi became the first child in his family to be born in Israel after 2,500 years of Exile. Today, he is the spokesperson of the 'Nascent Sanhedrin: www.thesanhedrin.org/en/index.php/T…wish_Sanhedrin . Rabbi HaLevi helped draft a letter to US President Donald Trump which states the several reasons why this new peace plan can NOT be accepted as is, that it would create a terror state, and that Israel cannot be 'split' or 'divided'. The articles stating that Israel can apply sovereignty to Jewish communities in its Biblical Heartland, or, Judea & Samaria, or as some incorrectly refer to as 'The West Bank', is a positive and correct move. However, it cannot be stopped there. Listeners call in, and make their comments. This is an intriguing show!

The Communist Party regime of President Xi-jingping is striving for global technological and economic dominance by 2025. Its “Made in China” 2025 plan seeks to have Chinese companies control both domestic and global production in 10 key sectors becoming a superpower. Among those sectors are robotics, artificial intelligence, biomedical research and development, semi-conductor chip manufacturing, energy efficient electric vehicles. To achieve that it is engaged in academic and technological espionage and cooperative programs such as the Thousand Scholars Program and Confucian Institute plying leading edge US researchers with millions in funding and gifts threatening US national security.
Here are some recent examples.
• On January 2, 2020, a Harvard University expert in nanotechnology, Charles Lieber Chairman of the University’s Chemistry department and two Chinese researchers were arrested by the FBI. He was accused of lying about receiving millions of dollars in Chinese funding misleading the U.S. Department of Defense and the National Institutes of Health about his participation in China’s Thousand Talents Plan while those U.S. agencies were spending more than $15 million to fund his research group in this country. Yanqing Ye, a Boston University robotics researcher who prosecutors said lied about being in the Chinese army, and Zaosong Zheng, a cancer researcher at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center who was arrested last month allegedly trying to smuggle research samples out of the country.
• On June 7, 2020, a Chinese medical researcher was arrested in Los Angeles before boarding a flight to Tianjin, China after he revealed he was an officer in the PLA to the US Customs and Border Patrol agents. He had arrived in March 2019 to work at a University of California at San Francisco medical research. His assignment for the PLA was to steal complete plans for duplicating the lab in China.
An Inside Higher Ed report in May 2020 noted the danger of the Chinese academic espionage threat in the US. It cited a Hoover Institution investigation of more than 370,000 Chinese students currently studying in U.S. universities, with a focus on STEM-related courses. The analysis concluded, “China’s expropriation of American technology is an example of how it leverages its influence among universities, corporations and diaspora communities to further strategic objectives.”
IHE reported in late May 2020 Administration plans to cancel the visas of 3,000 Chinese Graduate Students in the US who had attended Military Universities. Against this background Rod Reuven Dovid Bryant and Jerry Gordon brought back Stephen Bryen, former Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Technology and Security during the Reagan era, noted military technologist and columnist for the Asia Times.
Here are some of the takeaways form the interview.
On the Problem of China as the US Largest Trading Partner.
Since 1985, the US has lost much of its heavy manufacturing and technology to China. It was driven in part by corporate penetration of the billion plus market and lower production costs. The result was a shift to a technology and service US economy, with the loss of a vibrant middle class with decent wages and diminished prospects for entrepreneurship, one of the key foundations of democracy. China is now our largest trading partner, in part, because of Phase One Administration deal with China and major purchases of US agricultural products.
On the Chinese infringement of US intellectual property and National Security.
This arises from billions of US corporate science and technology investments in China. Then there are Chinese military penetration of student and academic technical exchange research laboratory programs like Thousand Talents Program and Confucius Institute, PLA academic and cyber espionage. All facilitated by no effective US export controls.
The Difficulty of Protecting US Technology – The Huawei Ban on Use of US Equipment for 5G Semiconductor Chip Manufacturers,
The Administration ‘s ban on use of US equipment by non-Chinese semi – conductor chip manufacturers in South Korea, Taiwan and Japan is circumvented by manufacturing or buying third party equipment. The economic incentive is the billions in sale of advanced chips for the Huawei 5-G internet and telecom systems. The US has no leverage despite trying to persuade allies in the UK, EU, and Australia. The exposure to spying is very worrisome to US national security. The Importance of Congress to enact tough Export Controls.
The top priority is to have Congress rewrite our ‘broken’ export control laws. The second priority is visa control and a companion vetting system for screening out PLA officers and others who are connected with China’s military industrial complex. Today we have no controls over applied research to ensure national security. While the FBI is involved, the real expertise resides in DoD and CIA scientific intelligence groups. We need effective control legislation, a dedicated vetting organization with a ‘mindset’ to administer the program. The political problem is overcoming the significant lobbying power of US companies and universities with Congress. The Chinese student exchange program is estimated to benefit US universities by $13 billion annually.
On the US military power to counter China threats in the South China Sea and Taiwan Straits.
The US has air, naval and bases in Japan, Okinawa, Korea, Guam in the conflict region and Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean. Currently three US Carrier Battle Groups are in the conflict zone: The USS Nimitz, Ronald Reagan, and Theodore Roosevelt. Each group has 66 jet fighters, attached ASW and other defense capabilities. China has only two carriers capable of launching only 18 aircraft. Our allies in the region are not doing enough. Japan did not proceed with the Acquisition of an anti-Missile Aegis Ashore installation.

For more than two weeks the U.S. has been roiling in daily often violent versus peaceful protests over allegations of black racism and white privilege triggered by videos of the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody arrested for passing a $20 counterfeit bill.
The nightly protests were set against the background of lurid flames and looting of minority owned businesses and fashionable stores from Manhattan to Santa Monica. In a Jewish Press opinion article entitled “God Is Dead,” Dan Greenfield illustrated how allies of the Black Lives Matter movement were torching African American and other churches including the President’s Church, St. John’s Episcopal on the periphery of Lafayette Park within steps of the White House.
That episode figured in a dramatic assault with tear gas and rubber bullets clearing the protests. Greenfield cited further evidence of a pogrom in broken windows at the 225 year Reform Temple in Richmond, Virginia and the Pro -Palestinian vandalism on the facade of an Orthodox Synagogue in the Fairfax section of Los Angeles; the latter indicative of “anti-Israelism the new antisemitism.”
Back in 2016, Tablet Magazine headlined a news report, “From Left to Right, Jewish Groups condemn ‘Repellent ‘Black Lives Matter Claim of Israeli ‘Genocide.’” What the media is not reporting is there are ominous signs that behind the “balagan” – chaos in slangy Hebrew- may be a disturbing anti-American Intifada.
To expound on this, Rod Reuven Dovid and Jerry Gordon brought back Dexter Van Zile, Shillman Research Fellow and Christian Media Analyst at the Boston-based Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting and Analysis (CAMERA).
Van Zile says “that the Third Intifada is happening in the United States. What began as a War on Israel and American Jews has become a war on the republic itself? In support of his thesis, Van Zile argues:
• Many of same strategies used to delegitimize Israel and make it harder to defend the country are now being deployed against the US. • The 2001 Durban Strategy has shifted from Israel to the U.S. • The goal with Israel was to render the country ungovernable. • Americans are going to struggling with the same effects felt by Jews in Israel as a result.
Nevertheless, Israelis united and overcame at great cost in blood and treasure the Intifada threats to the destruction of the Jewish nation that are still at the core of the BDS international campaign.
Van Zile says, “the same institutions that facilitated the propaganda war on Israel have been enlisted in the war on the American middle class.”
As evidence of this development, he points to the comments of Linda Sarsour, a US Born Palestinian supporter of Hamas and Sharia Law during a United Church of Christ- sponsored May 31, 2020 webinar on the uprising over the death of George Floyd. She said: “What we’re trying to do in this …televised revolution is that I’m saying this not in the literal sense, but in the sense of “Burn it all down. Start Over”. She called for defunding Police departments and abolishing the USDHS Immigration Control and Enforcement. Van Zile suggests that Sarsour is promoting an Intifada in the U.S. with the goal of overthrowing the system – making it ungovernable. All within the cloak of non-violent action.
Others on the UCC webinar supported Sarsour’s objectives with messages: • The U.S. is an illegitimate nation founded on the sin of slavery. • The U.S. was never a democracy. • The white people in America are incapable of responding to legitimate justice demands from African Americans.
Van Zile points out that while the US may not be a perfect democracy, its system of governance is decidedly better than the totalitarian movements it has defeated in its history. He speaks of the belief in equal rights before the law that has served the cause of freedom in America’s foundational events – the Declaration of Independence, the ratification of the Constitution, the abolitionist movement and underground railroad that freed slaves, the Civil War and 13th and 14th Amendments, notwithstanding Supreme Court rulings that perpetrated Jim Crow Laws, reaching a climax in the Civil Rights movement and anti-discrimination and voting rights laws of the 1960’s.
Van Zile cites a book by Mae Cannon, "Beyond Hashtag Activism" published by Intervarsity Press. Ms. Cannon promotes of the work of Al Haq, a Palestinian “lawfare” group headquartered in Ramallah whose head Shawan Jabarin is also a member of the PFLP terrorist group.
Van Zile is concerned about the undermining of what have been middle class institutions in America. He cites churches, land grant colleges and the media “have become places of Anti-American political indoctrination.” A recent UCC webinar is indicative of the devolution of liberal Protestant denominations. Given his experience fighting “thought control” by a pro-Palestinian communications professor Dr. Jhally at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Van Zile says: “ Colleges and Universities have turned into places where students worry more about being ‘woke’ than being able to ‘work’ when they graduate. Land – grant institutions, great engines for the Middle Class have been hijacked, need to be reformed.”
The resignation of New York Times Opinion Editor James Bennett’s departure was proof to Reason Magazine that “woke scolds were taking over” at the paper. The cause of the scolds was their objection on the grounds of “workplace safety” to an op-ed by US Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton. To Van Zile this was further evidence “that Middle Class ideas – law and order – are no longer acceptable in polite society.”

The Zohar on Behaalotecha the Torah portion describing the Aaron the High Priest ascending to light the Menorah (Lampstand) starts out speaking about the fires of illumination. However, it soon speaks about Noah's Ark and the concept of judgment related to Yom HaDin (Rosh Hashana), the Jewish New Year. There is an interesting connection and distinction to be made based on what we learn in this Torah portion related to the destructive fires that are burning around the world. Fire can be positive or negative depending on one's perspective. What is your perspective?

To what extent are the events in our life a result of choices that we have made or determined by G-d as a part of His divine plan? This is a huge question that is important to think about not only on a philosophical level, but in the way it practically affects our lives and our well-being. Understanding the answer to this question is the secret to inner peace.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been meeting with leaders of the Yesha Council in an attempt to resolve disagreements over the proposed map outlining the borders of a prospective Palestinian state. Netanyahu’s efforts come among stark interim opposition to the U.S. peace plan, by some settler leaders, led by David Elhayani, Yesha Council Chairman, and head of the Jordan Valley Regional Council. More moderate settler leaders, such as Efrat mayor Oded Revivi, back the U.S. vision and support the fresh unity government, in the Jerusalem Post’s recent article “Trump’s Peace Plan Pits Settler Ideologues against Pragmatists,” which captures this tension. Defense Minister Benny Gantz has instructed the IDF to prepare for the application of Israeli sovereignty beginning July 1, 2020. The Western media and many in the EU are “anguishing’ over this prospect. The reality of the Trump plan differs from media and diplomatic perception. It is not Israeli “annexation” that is under discussion. Annexation only occurs when one sovereign state unilaterally annexes the land of another sovereign state. That is clearly not the case here. It is the declared intention of Israel to apply civilian law over the Jordan Rift Valley which has been an issue of wall to wall public, political, and security consensus in Israel since June 1967, when Israel was forced to conquer the former Jordanian controlled West Bank to which it ceded claims in July, 1988. Israel would apply Israeli law to the Jordan Valley, that includes some 25,000 Arabs in villages and towns, who would remain under Palestinian Authority rule, or would possibly receive Israeli residency or citizenship. The current U.S. peace plan is the first program to recognize Israel’s historical and legal rights and vital security requirements for defensible borders, which has been, since 1967, a Labor party security concept that defined Israeli government and security principles for the Jordan Valley and the Judea Samaria hill ridge, in the context of Israel’s presence in that region. According to Dan Diker, director of the Program to Counter Political Warfare and BDS at the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs (JCPA), the U.S. peace plan is a “game changer.” Unlike five decades of failed prior U.S. peace proposals, the current plan recognizes Israel’s security interests first, and then builds a diplomatic strategy to achieve a secure peace that can be defended on the ground. Past plans started with demanding Israeli concessions and granting Palestinian demands, and then attempted to figure out how to enable Israel to defend itself. That is why four prior U.S. sanctioned peace plans since Camp David in 2000 failed miserably. There is something more afoot: the U.S. peace plan may be a “breakthrough” putting the Palestinian Authority on the veritable “hot seat.” A recent Israel Hayom article by Ariel Kahana, “Times are Changing”, reported under the radar support for Israel’s plans at the highest government levels in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, other gulf states, and even in Jordan and Egypt. Sources close to the leadership in these countries have been quoted as saying that their leaders are tired of being “played” by Mahmoud Abbas and the corrupt PLO-Fatah leadership regarding their self-inflicted grievances. At the same time, Arab kingdoms and states are concerned about confronting the regional threat posed by the Islamic Republic of Iran in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Yemen. The May 19, 2020 declaration by Abbas, ending agreements with Israel under the Oslo II accords of 1995 may have been the last straw. Dan Diker and Khaled Abu Toameh wrote about the consequences in a JCPA analysis, “Mahmoud Abbas’s Strategy of Selective Compliance.” They noted: "Abbas’ latest threat illustrated the effectiveness of the PA leader’s media and diplomatic campaign against Israel. Major international news media outlets and Western diplomats did not see the move as a material breach of the Palestinian leadership’s legal obligations under the Oslo Accords. Abbas’ public announcement abandoning signed agreements with Israel under the Oslo Accords is neither an unprecedented nor isolated event. Abbas’ undiplomatic rhetoric and attacks on Israel and the United States disregarded accepted diplomatic practice. His statements, threats, and actions reflect a broader strategy of selective compliance to agreements since signing the first of the Oslo Accords with Israel in September 1993. For its part, Israel erred in remaining silent over Palestinian violations for many of the 27 years of the Oslo agreements for fear of losing Palestinian partnership and international support. Israel has paid a high international price in its own state legitimacy over the past two decades for failing to expose and protest the violations of Oslo". Against this background, Rod Reuven, Dovid Bryant and Jerry Gordon brought back Dan Diker of the JCPA to address these issues. Here are some of the takeaways. Impact on Palestinian Arabs. Sixty percent of Palestinian Arab responded in polls that the Palestinian Authority leaders are corrupt and need to be replaced. The 35,000 Palestinians employed in both Jewish and Palestinian owned businesses in Area C have seven times the average per capita GDP than their counterparts in the Palestinian authority; perhaps the highest in surrounding Arab countries. Why Yesha Council members are divided over the Trump Plan. Yossi Dagan of the Samaria Regional Council remains critical as he thinks it will result in a terrorist State of Palestine, leading to the destruction of Israel. Diker contends that a full reading of the 182 pages of the Trump peace plan stresses demilitarization of Palestinian forces and negotiations of Israel security “footprint” in strategic areas, e.g., the Jordan Valley approaches and Judean Hills. Why Efrat Mayor and Former Yesha Council Envoy Oded Ravivi is in favor of the Trump Peace Plan. Diker and family are residents of Efrat in Judea. He has started a podcast with long term Mayor, Likud Party member, and former Yesha Council Foreign Envoy Oded Revivi, to present a nuanced approach to normalization facilitated by adoption of the peace plan. In her Jerusalem Post article, Tovah Lazaroff noted Revivi’s ‘pragmatism: "Revivi broke early with the Yesha Council over the Trump peace plan, arguing that the historic opportunity for sovereignty is worth the compromises inherent in the plan. In support of the Trump plan, he has been uncharacteristically blunt and outspoken, including writing opinion pieces and actively engaging on Twitter. He is among those who believe that Israel can safely support the plan without worrying about the creation of a Palestinian state, because he believes that Palestinians will meet U.S. dictates for the creation of such a state. Revivi has likened the Trump plan to the 1947 UN partition plan. The issues inherent in that plan did not stop the Jewish leadership of the time from grasping that opportunity and, he argues, the settler leadership should take that same stand now". Why Does the US Peace Plan put the PA in the “Hot Seat”? The PA leadership routine response of “no” to all previous offers of independence since 1936 has failed. Their lone mantra of using terrorism and political warfare to attempt to take the Palestine Mandate territories from “the river to the sea” has also failed. The Palestinian leadership has refused nine offers since 1936. The Clinton deal with former prime minister Ehud Barak in 2000 gave them some 94 percent of what they wanted, and it was still rejected. The current U.S. peace plan recognizes the Jewish legal rights east of 1967 lines in the Jewish People’s ancient, biblical heartland The plan provides a $50 billion development budget to build “a Hong Kong on the Mediterranean” and a “Macau” to enable a viable first world economy that will establish upper middle classes on the West Bank. It ends the money tree of donor aid that made the “Kleptocratic” Fatah leadership multi- and centi-millionaires. The PLO has deceived the American public with fake and cynical victimization grievances while incentivizing and financing terrorism to the tune of 350 million dollars of the PA budget in 2019. It is a moment of truth for the Palestinians. How United is Israel’s National Emergency Government? It is a broad-based government with Likud and the Gantz breakaway from Blue and White, the Labor Parties, and both ultra-orthodox religious parties. Yemina, which is presently in opposition, could enter later. Diker assesses the unity government is set up to last three to four years, with Netanyahu having the first rotation term of one and half years, with Gantz taking the second term. Diker senses the desire and commitment to political and economic stability in the Israeli polity after two failed elections and the ongoing COVID- 19 crisis The priorities of the government are the economy, health- the coronavirus pandemic, and security, meaning threats from Iran, Hezbollah, Hamas and PIJ. On why Secretary of State Pompeo made a trip to Jerusalem. It was not about the peace plan. It was about pulling back from China’s major prospective infrastructure investments in Israel, over the COVID-19 deceptions that infuriated President Trump and Secretary of State and former CIA Director Mike Pompeo. Diker noted the awarding of Israel’s largest Sorek-2 desalinization project to an Israeli consortium rather than a Chinese water company. The pending awards for Haifa and Ashdod port and light rail contracts are also concerns. The message conveyed in the six-hour meeting with the new emergency government leaders was: “Back off, China.” Dan Diker can be reached at diker@jcpa.org. See his daily Twitter commentary @DanDiker84

There is a burgeoning economic cold war between China and the US during the COVID-19 Pandemic. It is triggered by accusations of a coverup of the breakout of deadly virus with over 90,000 fatalities and massive negative economic impacts on employment and growth. Then there are accusations of theft of an estimated $6 trillion dollars of US Intellectual Property rights by the Xi-Ping Communist regime in Beijing. There are proposals for sanctions and possible suits for damages in proposed legislation introduced by US Senators Rand Paul and Lindsey Graham. They will likely come a cropper because of US courts granting sovereign immunity to China.
But there is a more practical solution; the swap of a century old gold backed bonds of the Republic of China that defaulted in 1938, valued at $1.6 trillion dollars, for a like amount of US debt held by China. The payoff could be billions of stimulus to the US economy at virtually no cost and a reduction in our national debt.
This proposal is the work of a determined horse breeder and cattle rancher from middle Tennessee Ms. Jonna Bianco, founder of the American Bondholders Foundation (ABF) in August 2001. It all started when she was approached by a US holder of these Republic of China bonds regarding a venture, she was interested in. When she approached the US Department of The Treasury, she was told that they were genuine sovereign debt, but that China rejected the obligation as a successor regime in 1949 to pay off the debt.
Over nearly two decades, working with the Bush, Obama and now Trump Administrations Ms. Bianco has built an inventory of these legacy bonds from 20,000 Americans in 46 states, testified several times before Congress that in turn passed resolutions supporting the debt swap proposal. She briefed President Trump who told her, “the US pays its obligations and so should China”.
Ms. Bianco is channeling the late UK Prime Minister Dame Margaret Thatcher, who forced the Chinese government in 1987 to buy these defaulted ROC bonds, as a quid pro quo for accessing the global financial market in the City of London- the Wall Street of the UK. We have taken to calling her, the American equivalent of “the Iron Lady’, Margaret Thatcher.
US citizens are not alone in this quest to make China pay for these legitimate debt obligations as the successor government. Ms. Bianco points out citizens of France, Belgium, Italy and even Israel hold these China legacy bonds. Some of these groups have official standing from their governments, who have filed objections to China’s rejection of these legacy bonds with the WTO. Now with President Trump backing the China US debt swap, justice might be at hand. It is in large measure due to the groundwork of this determined woman who founded the American Bondholders Foundation, Ms. Jonna Bianco.

The Yamina party under Naftali Bennet and Ayelet Shaked have stated that they may be going to the opposition since PM Netanyahu made an agreement with the Left under Benny Gantz, most likely handing over the Defense and Justice ministries, to the Left, which the Yamina heads have been heading until now. This conflict over control of ministries has most likely brought the Yamina party's decision to opt out of the Netanyahu/Gantz government. "Yamina will prepare for the day after Netanyahu, which will come in a year and a half, and produce from the opposition a real alternative: a right that is not ready to sell the justice system to the left for personal survival". So who is right? PM Netanyahu and his partnership with the Left, or Yamina, and their threat not to sit in this type of government?
Also, what is happening between the USA, Saudi Arabia, and Iran? We give a summary of these news events on this show.

The COVID-19 Pandemic has infected over 3.7 million cases global, produced 258,012 dead. The US now has over 1.2 million cases and 72,256 deaths attributable to the novel coronavirus with its spikes of deadly proteins. Israel has 16,289 infected and 238 deaths. The US Departments of Homeland Security and Health and Human Services has made US projections that by June 2020, an estimated 200,000 cases may double the level of fatalities from 1,750 daily currently to over 3,000. Dr. Anthony Fauci of the US National Institute of Infectious Diseases warns that there could be a ‘second wave’ coming this fall. Joint US and UK researcher allege in preliminary research that the novel coronavirus could mutate making it more contagious. Antibody and antigen testing appears to be flawed producing less than accurate results. The Swiss pharmaceuticals firm of Roche appears to have developed an accurate antibody test but cannot claim any predictive outcome of immunity or possible re-infection. Then we have the international outcries against China and especially the questionable practices of the Wuhan Institute of Virology that may have accidentally released the novel Coronavirus from bat studies that might have been directed at a vaccine for HIV. That is reflected in the so-called ‘Five Eyes’ Intelligence report leaked to the press in Australia. The ‘Five Eyes are the intelligence agencies of the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The US Department of Homeland Security issued a report saying that China engaged in a “cover up” to horde medical supplies for its own use. Yet during the chaos of the COVID-19 Pandemic there is rising empirical evidence that suggests that the novel coronavirus may be weakening. That may be further corroborated by the phased release of restricted confinement in Germany, Italy, Spain, UK, Israel, South Korea, and China. Notwithstanding, the harder problem to solve is the matter of especially closed populations that are at risk of spreading the coronavirus in nursing homes, meat packing plants, Indian reservations and mass transit systems To present this opposing view Rod Reuven Dovid Bryant and Jerry Gordon reached out to Dr. Stephen Bryen, former Pentagon Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Technology and Security, well regarded military technology and Asia Times columnist. Bryen suggests that the Five Eyes ‘leaked’ intelligence report has been repudiated for being political and in violation of operational restrictions on highly classified information. While it was disturbing to the Chinese, US CDC and NIH, the Five Eyes report essentially said what others had that the Wuhan Institute of Virology had sloppy conditions, but didn’t say that the coronavirus came from the lab or was man made. He suggests that it would be difficult to investigate the charges as China has blocked any inquiries from outside, allegedly sanitized the facility, pulled scientific papers off the internet, and sequestered anyone in China raising concerns. Bryen suggests that all foreign research agencies who cooperated with the Wuhan lab also claim that the novel coronavirus was ‘naturally occurring’. For evidence to the contrary Bryen points out the observations of controversial French Nobel Laureate and discoverer of the HIV, Luc Montagnier, who suggests that the coronavirus may contain fragments of HIV to build a vaccine against it. Thus, it became zoonotic- facilitated transmission from animals to humans. However, that may mean that any man-made virus is unstable. Bryen cites discovery of a mutated but weakened COVID-19 case in Arizona. This he believes is reflected in the drop off infected cases and declining curves in Germany, Italy, Israel, New Zealand, and China. Bryant raised the question of grants by the US NIH and the Pentagon to the Wuhan Laboratory via the Eco-Health Alliance for the latter’s PREDICT program to investigate viruses in bats, rodents, and other animals. The Trump Administration ended those grants in April 2020. In response, Bryen says those grants and research efforts into dangerous pathogens was motivated by possible discovery of potential vaccines. The danger of such projects Bryen says is reflected in the US shutting such investigations in 2014 to 2017, the same period during which the Wuhan lab was designated a Bio-Safety Level -4 facility. Even the US Army Biological warfare laboratory BSL-4 facility at Fort Detrick, Maryland was shut down for two months in 2019 to address leaks into its sewerage system of contaminants. Bryen also points out that Chinese scientists and students appear to have been involved in illegal smuggling of biological samples that triggered FBI and RCMP investigations into theft of intellectual property for vaccine development. He cites cases in Boston, Detroit and Winnipeg of the string underlying commercial interests of China. In support of his thesis that the infection rate of COVID-19 may be going down in Europe Bryen cited research by the Robert Koch Institute in Germany that demonstrated that the reproduction rate has weakened. Bryant pointed out that the German reproduction rate may have been as high as 6. Bryen said the Koch Institute found that it had dropped to .73. Bryen cited a research report by a German professor at the Leibniz University, Professor Stefan Homburg, who suggested that the value of lockdown was negligible in curtailing the virus infection and hospitalization rates. Bryant and Bryen said that maybe reflected in the overbuilding of emergency temporary hospitals in the UK and perhaps in the US. Gordon cited the intractable problem of rampant infections and deaths among close closed populations- many with acute underlying health conditions – such as nursing homes in US, UK, Italy, and Israel. Then there are hot spots on US Indian reservations in the southwest that have triggered lockdowns of adjacent communities such as has occurred in Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. President Trump was scheduled to visit one reservation in Arizona early this week. These reservations do not have running water, sanitary facilities and residents have inadequate health care to address the novel coronavirus according to the US Indian Health Service and CDC. Then there are the 151-meat packing and slaughterhouses in the heartland of the US. Gordon cited the more than 5,000 cases and dozens of deaths reported in more than 17 states where these plants are located. The low wage workers are drawn from immigrant and refugee communities that live in multi-generational housing and have underlying public health problems. Bryen noted the problems of mass transit systems in the US and UK – subways, trains, buses, and airplanes. Bryen noted the New York City Transit Authority shutting down the system to remove homeless to shelters to disinfect the trains. Bryen suggests that this public health threat to counter any virus may require travelers to wear mandatory masks, sanitary wipes to practice more effective hygiene. Gordon noted the Trump Administration “Operation Warp Drive” push for a vaccine with upwards of 14 possible candidates including Remdesvir and FDA approval of live randomized human tests of vaccines that start shortly. Bryen cited the Oxford University human trials in the UK and two similar trials in Israel: one by the MIGAL – Research Institute of the Galilee and another by the IDF Biological Research institute that achieved a ‘breakthrough – the first antibody to neutralize COVID-19.. Gordon drew attention to the comments of former US FDA chairman, Scott Gottlieb that antibody testing is inaccurate. However, that antigen testing in conjunction with the Remdesivir drug of Gilead Sciences may offer effective therapies for sever Coronavirus cases. Bryen cited the positive results from a Chicago test, but not from the China one. He suggests that may be a ploy to obtain a patent.

In the age of Coronavirus there seems to be an abundance of conspiracy theories arising. Rabbi Yitzchak discuss how this correlates to what we learn in Torah. Then, Yishai plays an installment of Texas Congressman Dan Crenshaw's podcast "We Hold These Truths" - where he interviews Zeev Orenstein, Director of International Affairs at the City of David, about unearthing Biblical history in ancient Jerusalem.

Doug Goldstein, CFP, answers one of the more common questions he gets: "As a non-US.citizen can I own a US brokerage account?"
Doug explains the benefits and pitfalls of investing in the international market. He explores why people are interested in owning US accounts, and why an investor should have a cross-border specialist if they plan to invest outside of their home country.
Christine Benz, director and senior columnist of Personal Finance for Morningstar, explains their rating system for mutual funds. Morningstar researches mutual funds and rates them with stars to give investors a visual guideline of their performance.
Christine advises why an investor shouldn't only rely on Morningstar's research, but should also do their own. She also breaks down the difference between index funds and exchange traded funds (ETFs).
Doug and Christine discuss her book Morningstar's 30-Minute Money Solutions: A Step-by-Step Guide to Managing Your Finances.
